2012-2013 School Year Core Curriculum

This last year was definitely a learning year for me.  I started reading about homeschooling methods and curriculum back in 2009/2010.  We did a little bit in 2011-2012 and this year was our "official" first year.  Boy my planning was NOT as helpful as I had hoped.

This was a learning year!  I learned I hate dislike phonics.  I learned that Spud will fight me no matter what curriculum I use or what we are trying to work on.  I learned not only did I have a kindergartner but a 4-K girl who thought she was a kindergartner and a 2 1/2 year old who thought he was suppose to be doing the same things the big kids were doing.  I learned I was not prepared for what ended up being our school year and that the best way to learn was by doing.

So moving on to our upcoming year with the official first year behind us (thank you Lord!).  Our core curriculum that we plan to use is:

Heart of Dakota's Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory
We plan to use this for both Spud and Lady.  Lady will only be 5 in August and this is for 6-8 year olds but we are going to take it slow and see how it goes.  With the baby due at the end of October I plan for this to take us longer than the 34 weeks.
Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory includes:
  • Scripture Memorization
  • Devotions
  • Science
  • Art
  • Geography
  • History
  • Poetry
  • Music
  • Spelling
  • Copywork - I have also put together a free copywork download that goes along with BLHFHG.
  • Math
  • Literature
  • Basic Grammar
So our basis and then some are covered.  I plan to add in a few things and only school with Beyond 4 days out of the 5 to stretch it out some.  I am really looking forward to Beyond Little Hearts and Lady especially wants to get back to school.  No long summer break here.  Our family definitely will be year round homeschoolers.

What are your plans for next year?  Have you started planning yet?  Leave me a comment below.
